We will establish more Fire Stations to combat Fire Outbreaks-CG

The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr Jaji O. Abdulganiyu has said establishment of  more Fire Fighting Service Stations is the priority of his admiinstration.

Abdulganiyu disclosed this at the press briefing to mark his 100 Days in office held in Abuja today.

” As it is today,the Service has 69 State-of-the-Art firefighting appliances,20 Basic Life support Ambulance,15 water tenders and hopefully before the end of next  year,we are expecting 45 additional appliances.”

He further elaborated that the 45 additional appliances expected will be deployed to the various senatorial districts in the country to help fight fire outbreaks in the grassroots.

To further prevent fire outbreaks in shopping malls and public buildings,the Controller-General said his tenure will ensure strict compliance with the Fire Safety Code.

” We will enforce compliance of Fire Safety Code and other extant laws.The enforcement team in coming days will ensure compliance as we use sensitisation to re- educate the masses of the need to comply with safety codes extant laws.Building developers need to ensure Fire Safety rules when construction is taking place.”he said.

 Abdulganiyu added that his adminstration will pursue with vigour the enactment of the Fire Service Act and other extant laws as the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the repeal of the 60 year old Fire Service Act and enactment of the Federal Fire and Rescue Service Establishment Act.

He further stated that his tenure will enhance the capacity of Fire Service men by training and re-training them to ensure the Safety of lives and properties. “This area has necessitated our collaboration with NAFFCO in UAE and Turkish Army during my visit to Konya State especially in the area of CBRN i.e Chemical,Biological Radiological and Nuclear firefighting.”he stated.

Abdulganiyu said the Service will continue to deploy massive public enlightenment campaigns in Fire prevention control and mitigation.

At a symposium which held as part of the activities to mark the Controller-Generals 100 Days in office,a lecture was held with the theme Coaching: A Panacea for Better performance with the Guest Speaker,Dr Ike Neliaku.
