The Director General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) Dr Abdulrasaq Garba says the agency is set to launch Nigerias first Lithostructural map.

Garba was speaking at the review Meeting of the map which held in Abuja on Wednesday.

” This is the first Edition map which brings into focus the structural architecture of the Nigerian basement and basin succession. The project was undertaken to produce a national 1: 2000000 (1:2M) scale Lithostructural map of Nigerias. This is the first of its kind in the country.

” The Lithostructural map is bringing everything together in a refined way using the last airborne survey we have. The last airborne survey we did was not fully optimised meaning the salient information we have, we have to bring it out and use it.” Garba said.

The Director General said with this map, Nigeria is at par with other countries accross the world and makes it easier for mineral exploration in the country.

He further stated that investors would be more attracted to the Nigeria solid minerals sector as the map would be a guide to their activities and enhance their operations and exploriation and exploitation.

He said it is important to provide vital information needed to allow people to come into the sector.

Speaking on the National Integrated Minaral Exploration Project, (NIMEP),  Garba said with the number of investors trying to access the data, there is hope for the mining sector in the country.

” Even at International forums, they are foreign investors interested in the data. Our recent, efforts in the sector, has given more confidence to foreign investors because we are generating the right kind of information required in the sector currently and that is why they are coming.” Garba explains.
