ICAN will raise the bar of transperancy and accountability in governance-ICAN Abuja Chair

The newly sworn-in Chairman of the Institute of Cnartered Accountants of Nigeria ( ICAN),Mr Oduwa Joseph Izekor has said the lnstitute will help raise the bar of transperancy and accountability in governance. 

He disclosed this in his speech during his swearing-in ceremony as the 12th Chairman of ICAN Abuja District on Sunday in Abuja.

” We want to curb sharp practices and raise the bar of transperency and accountability in governance.We as Chartered Accountants need to be more pro- active and calculative and as such, no compromise of values whatsoever.

” Accountants in Nigeria are basically in every sector of the economy. From the private to government institution. Our profession is our foundation and must be relevant to the day to day governance of the nation.”Izekor said.

While thanking the immiediate past Chairman Dr Abdulrasheed Balogun, for what he accomplished during his tenure, he urged his fellow accountants to restore the declining relevance of the profession.

Meanwhile, the 58th ICAN President Mal Tijani Musa Isa FCA who was represented by the first Deputy Vice President of ICAN, Chief DCS Alaribe FCA at the ceremony, said for accountants to do their job seamlessly, they should be given independance and not be muzzled by their superiors.

“Accountants should be given independance.You don’t muzzle them.You don’t tell them what to do.Accountants will always stand for what is right.”he said.

Similarly,a council member of ICAN,Hajiya Queensly Sofura  Seghosime FCA urged accountants nationwide to show that they are dependable and transperent in carrying out their jobs.
