Guinness World Record: Nigerian lecturer sets new record in longest marathon lecture

Nsikak Akpan has broken the record for the longest marathon lecture delivered in the world.

Akpan began his attempt to break the Guinness World Record on Monday, September 23, 2024, covering a wide range of topics on ecology and environmental science.

Akpan who is the provost of Health Sciences,Foreign Links Campus, Moro, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have now surpassed the previous record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, held by Indian professor Arvind Mishra, in the morning of Sunday, 29th of September, 2024 when he reached 142 hours.

Dr Akpan, if eventually verified by the Guinness World Record, would be the first Nigerian lecturer to reach the feat.

The lecturer, who is also the Provost, Foreign Links College, Moro Ife-North local government area of Osun State, lectured a varied audience of student, Relationship Between Man’s Environment and Health over the period.

Although, the lecturer had a little health challenge in the course of his quest, but he did not bac out and surpassed his 150 hours target.

Upon completing the task, the students inside the hall burst into a wide jubilation and applauding the feat reached by their lecturer.
