Federal Fire Service,NASRDA collaborates to strengthen Nigeria’s Safety and emergency response

The Federal Fire Service has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s safety and emergency response framework through a strategic collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

The Controller-General, Federal Fire Service Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, disclosed this during a workshop to celebrate the 2026 World Day for Safety and Health at Work Place held at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Obasanjo Space Centre, Abuja.

The workshop, themed “Thriving Personnel, Precision Mission: The Human Element of Nigeria’s Space Infrastructure,” brought together leading professionals and stakeholders to advance discussions on workplace safety, human capacity development, and operational efficiency within critical sectors.

The event was hosted by the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew O. Adepoju, and featured key contributions from the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service,  Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, alongside other distinguished participants including Mrs. Ifeoma Okpara, Chairman, ISPON Abuja Branch, among others. 

Highlights of the workshop included insightful lectures delivered by health and safety professionals, notably a presentation by the Controller General, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who emphasised the integration of safety systems, emergency preparedness, and human capacity development as essential drivers of operational excellence.

A notable moment at the event was the recognition of a female firefighter, ASF II Ozokwere Ngozi, for her professionalism, bravery, and exceptional conduct in the line of duty. The award,  was in recognition of her actions during a fire incident that occurred on 11th November 2025 at about 3:00 p.m. at the general storehouse of NigComSat  Headquarters, Abuja. 

Her timely professional judgment and intervention contributed significantly to bringing the incident under control and preventing further damage. Her actions reflect the core values of the Federal Fire Service; courage, professionalism, and service under pressure.

In a statement signed by National PRO/ Head, Corporate Services Federal Fire Service, National Headquarters,DCF Paul Abraham, the Controller-General underscored the importance of continuous training, personnel welfare, and a proactive safety culture as critical pillars for effective emergency response across all sectors.

The workshop also featured goodwill messages, technical sessions, and the launch of the NASRDA Safety Handbook, reinforcing a shared commitment to fostering a resilient and safety-conscious work environment nationwide.

This engagement reflects the Federal Fire Service’s dedication to strengthening inter-agency collaboration, enhancing national safety standards, and promoting best practices in emergency preparedness and response.
