The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has praised officers and men of the service for their initiative to build Quarter guards at the Headquarters and the Wuse Fire Service Command.
Olumode who unveiled the Quarter Guard in Wuse Fire Service Command before the one at Federal Fire Service Headquarter noted that the initiative has unveiled the culture of ownership, commitment and pride to the Service.
The Controller-General said: “This projects is particularly special because it was conceived, built, and presented by officers of the Federal Fire Service. It is a voluntary contribution by personnel who were inspired and motivated to give back to the institution that has given them purpose and opportunity.
“For the first time in the history of our Service, officers have chosen to leave a lasting legacy, not because they were instructed to do so, but because they believe in the vision and direction of the Federal Fire Service. That is a powerful testimony to what can be achieved when leadership inspires confidence and personnel feel valued.
“This Quarter Guards are therefore more than a physical structure. The represents discipline, professionalism, unity, creativity, and the spirit of service. The reflects the fact that when people are motivated, they willingly invest their time, skills, and resources in building a stronger institution.
“As we unveil this befitting Quarter Guards today, let it serve as a reminder that the Federal Fire Service belongs to all of us, and together, we can build an institution that every Nigerian will continue to admire and trust.” Olumode said.
He commended every officer involved in the noble initiative adding that their selfless contribution has set a benchmark for others to emulate.
In his response,the Head Inspectorate, Investigation and Enforcement Department,ACG Muhammad Tajudeen said since the CG came on board,he has boosted the morale and improved the welfare of officers.
He said: “It is a tradition that senior officers be given compliment/Salute once in a week when entering the station.So,I and my team decided we should have a befitting Quarter guard.So, we contributed funds and through direct labour constructed the Quarter Guard.
“Also, we were motivated by what the Controller-General is doing.He has been boosting the morale of officers encouraging us to be professional. He tells us that ‘fire must not happen and if it happens, we should be prepared to tackle it’.So,he has been a motivational force for us.”
Corroborating this,the Head Enforcement,Murtala Muhammad praised the CG for improving the welfare of Fire Service officers since he came to office about a year ago.
He said: “Part of what motivated us to do this is that upon the assumption of office,he gave us free medical intervention. If any officer falls sick,you have an intervention fund that will be given to you to go access medical treatment.Again,if someone dies, there is a package that will be given to help the person attend to the needs as a result of his/her beloved that pass away.Also,we are being given interest free loan.Which has been increased from three Hundred Thousand Naira to Five Hundred Thousand Naira, amongst others.
“These are things we have enjoyed since the Controller-General assumed office.So, we feel he is concerned about our welfare and this is a simple gesture by fire service officers to show it.” Muhammad said.
