ICAN gives 2 million each to Deceased Members’ Families

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Abuja and District Society has presented a cheque of two million naira (N2,000,000.00) each to the families of two of its deceased fellows who were members of the Society.

The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries – the wives of the deceased members by the Chairman, ICAN Abuja and District Society, Adesanya Adeyemi FCA, alongside other EXCO members on behalf of the President of the institute, Innocent Okwuosa, Ph.D on Tuesday at National Merit House in Abuja.

In his remarks, the chairman ICAN Abuja and District Society , Adeyemi told the gathering of the fellows and accounting professionals that death benefit  accrue to bonafide members of the institute, hence the presentation of the cash awards to the families of the two late members.

He said, “One of the plans that the institute has for its members is death benefit, since death is inevitable.

“For some organisations, once their member pass, that is the end, but I want to tell you that on our part, we have been giving death benefits and we are here doing it today again.”

The two deceased ICAN members being remembered were Messrs Desmond Adewumi and Adekunle Jimoh Lasisi.

According to him, the Abuja chapter had earlier filed the documents of the two deceased members at the institutes National Headquarters and had been following-up. The Institute verified and handed over the cheques of the beneficiaries to the branch at its recently held Western conference in Ibadan.

He said the public presentation during their meeting was to put things on record and also to encourage members to participate at meetings regularly.

The highpoint was the presentation of the two million naira cheque each to the beneficiaries.

Mrs Adewumi, the wife of late Desmond Adewumi, was the first to receive on behalf of the Adewumi family, followed by Mrs Nkiruka Lasisi, the wife of the late Adekunle Jimoh Lasisi, who received on behalf of the Lasisi family.

In their separate responses, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to God for their sustenance.They also thanked the ICAN President, the ICAN Abuja and District Society Chairman, the EXCO and all members of the prestigious professional body for the kind gesture.
