Future of Nigerias aviation sector depends on efficient procurement system-Najomo

The Director-General Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA),Captain Chris Najomo,has said the future of Nigerias aviation sector depends on the Authority’s ability to implement a procurement system that is efficient, transparent, and aligned with global best practices. 

Najomo disclosed this in his speech at the symposium on procurement processes in line with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) due process policy held in Lagos on Thursday.

Najomo stated:”To support Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Minister’s 5-Point Agenda,we must embrace a procurement system that reduces financial leakages by enforcing strict compliance with due process,encourage competition and fair bidding to attract credible investors.Also, ensure cost-effective contracts that maximise public funds for aviation development, strengthen public-private partnerships to drive efficiency and boost revenue generation.”

Najomo further disclosed that as a regulatory agency, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) fully aligns with governments principles to promote efficiency, prevent financial mismanagement, and ensure compliance with national policies.

He stated that public procurement is at the core of government efficiency and fiscal responsibility adding that in the aviation sector, procurement decisions affect airport infrastructure, air navigation services, safety regulations, and operational efficiency.”

He said if done right, procurement has the power to attract investment, enhance aviation service delivery, and maximise revenue for the nation. 

In his opening remarks, Director, Corporate Services, Dr Rebecca Aghadinazu said the programme was designed to improve the efficiency and transparency of the  authority procurement process.”Also, it aims at tackling specific structural and capacity challenges of our procurement process while ensuring proper implementation of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.

“In view of the strategic importance of procurement activities to the Authority and the need to achieve value for money, it has become necessary to educate and sensitise Directorates/Departments and Units of their role in the procurement circle of the Authority in other to achieve optimum result.”She said.

The symposium was anchored by Development Issues Consult Limited in conjunction with Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP).
