The Group Managing Director of Abuja Investments Company Limited ( AICL) Ambassador Maureen Tamuno, has called on the Chairpersons of NILOWV accross the federation to strategize and bring out the best from women and youth in their states.
Tamuno disclosed this when the Chairperson of League of Women voters(NILOWV) in Rivers state Mrs Ruth Davies-Ibaimu led other Chairpersons of the league accross the federation on a courtesy visit to her office in Abuja on Thursday.
Tamuno said:” Wherever I am,I try to leave a legacy and impact. In doing that,I want more women given space in their respective corners to excel.
“I was telling the Chairperson of the Rivers state chapter some of the things the League of Women voters need to do in partnerships with other Pressure groups to achieve their goals.
“Recently,as part of our CSR and also a segment of the Abuja Business & Investment Expo coming up,we decided to do a Talent-hunt looking at young people between the ages of 18 and 35 years. We did this in partnership with our sister Agency, the Abuja Enterprise Agency to empower some young people in the FCT in th area of Agriculture,IT and Creative Arts.
Over 1000 young people applied and at the end we had the best 5,from each category after serious scrutiny by judges. They all went home with cash prizes and in our summit coming up next week, they will be asked to pitch their ideas before bigger investors who will support further.
“So things like this can be replicated in various states. It must not be the same but you as League of Women voters can have a brainstorming session and come up with an idea that suits your locality. And when you have come up with your ideas and plans, you can reach out to me and we will look at it and take it up from there.
In her response, the Chairperson of Rivers state Chapter of NILOWV,Mrs Ruth Davies-Ibaimu thanked the GMD for her advice adding that the league was proud to have her as the head of the company .
She said the visit was to appreciate her for the job she is doing at the Abuja Investment Company Limited and to seek her support to help carry out some programmes in the grassroots.
She said:”We want you to continue the good work you are doing at the Abuja Investment Company Limited and we need you as a member of Nigeria League of Women voters (NILOWV) to support us so we can support more women.”
In her vote of thanks, the Chairperson of NILOWV Abia state Chapter,Hon. Blessing Nwangba said the League of Women voters has a structure and is in every state and will continue to seek partnership with the company.
