The 62nd President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Segoshime,mni,MSc, FCA has said one of roles of districts is to spread the reach of the institute by bringing in more people.
Segoshime disclosed this during the investiture of the 2nd Chairman of the Kubwa and District Society Mr Emmanuel Babawale Salako and the inauguration of 2026/2027 Executive Committee in Kubwa, FCT on Friday.

She said: “It’s with great pleasure that I join you today as we witness another important milestone in the growth of the Kubwa and District Society of our great Institute.Leadership transition reflects continuity, renewal and our shared commitment to excellence.
I congratulate Mr Emmanuel Babawale Salako, FCA, on his investiture as the 2nd Chairman of this District Society and commend the incoming Executive Committee. I also salute the outgoing Chairman, Mrs Ijeoma Ugwunebo, FCA, and her team for laying a solid foundation for the District’s continued growth.

“Just one month ago, I had the honour of taking the oath of office as the 62nd President of our great Institute. At my investiture, I shared a message that will continue to define my presidency: WE ARE ICAN. It is our shared identity and collective responsibility.
“This event is a very special occasion for us. It tells you how we, as ICAN, devote powers to the grassroots.So, it is nota question of one person gets it.We translate it down.Over a month ago, I was invested as the President of the Institute. This is what we are replicating here in Kubwa dist and Society.
“So his responsibility is to ensure that he spreads the message, he helps members, he helps students through our ‘Catch them Young programme, he helps everyone who wants to be part of us, to be part of us or to be better part of us.”

In his goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Dr Tope Fasua,FCA ably represented by the Dr Fred Iklaga urged the new chairman to spread the ideals and tenets of the accounting profession in the kubwa axis.
“As you embark on this new leadership journey, I urge you to uphold these tenets of accounting profession.Your commitment to ethical standards, unwavering integrity and excellence will set a benchmark for your colleagues and inspire confidence within the public you serve.Furthermore, as the watchdogs of society, especially in financial matters, it is essential that you remain vigilant and well informed about developments in the industry and beyond.
Continuous learning and adaptation will empower you to navigate the complexities of the financial landscape and safeguard the interests of members and the society.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the Kubwa and District society Mr Emmanuel Salako,FCA said he will build on the great achievements of the pioneer and immediate past Chairman of the district,Mrs Ijeoma Ugwunebo,FCA.
“We aim to build a stronger and more vibrant district society, one that prioritises professionalism, excellence, innovation, impactful service, mentorship of young accountants and strategic partnership. We would have training programmes that improve the capacity and enhance the value our members.
‘I believe that the strength of any professional body does not lie only in the quality of their members but also in their willingness to serve one another. Leadership is about creating opportunities for others to grow, inspiring excellence and leaving every institution stronger than we found it.Our welfare efforts will transcend the usual packages to the level where gainful employment needs and the well being of members become our collective concern.” Salako said.

In her Valedictory speech , the Pioneer and the Immediate Past Chairman of the Kubwa and District Society Mrs Ijeoma Ugwunebo,FCA thanked the Pioneer Executive team for working tirelessly with her to achieve all that the team achieved in 22 months.
She highlighted some of their achievements to include holding Technical Sessions during every district general meeting ,hosting a global virtual seminar and the 2026 accounting week seminar. Also, she said the district organised ” Catch them Young “programme at the NYSC Camp, two tertiary institutions and five secondary schools.Also,that the district secured and furnished the district office which has given ICAN a permanent presence in Kubwa and its environs.
She mentioned the 3rd position Medium Category laurel won by the young district at its debut outing at the Annual Accountants Conference of 2025 among numerous other achievements that has stabilised the district and placed it on a path of sustainable growth.
She called for support from members to the new Chairman and his team while promising to be there always to give a helping hand where needed.
