The Old Girls of Achedeacon Crowther Memorial Girls School Elelenwo, Abuja branch, gathered for their Awards Night and launching of Magazine at Sandralia Hotel in Abuja last Saturday.
Some of the dignitaries who were honoured at the event were the Wife of the Imo State Governor, Barrister Chioma Uzodima and President of When Women Pray International, Apostle Opi Agha.
Receiving the Friends of ACMGS Award for philanthropy on behalf of the Imo State First lady, the wife of the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Mrs Adaora Iwanyanwu said the First lady is elated for the recognition.
Similarly, Apostle Opi Agha who received an award for raising Godly and Virtuous women to influence their families for God and foster Nation Building, said she was overwhelmed being recognised by old girls of her school. She called on women accross the country to arise in their different corners and become beacons of hope for their families and communities like Esther in the Bible.
The National President of the ACMGS Elelenwo Old Girls Association,Prof.Onyaye Edgar Kunle-Olowu said the school strives for Excellence and Legacy. “When you see the people who have passed through the gates of our school,you could see that virtually all of them have excelled in different ways. We had good mentorship, good teachers and we still do,so it’s difficult to be an old girl of ACMGS Elelenwo and not excel. Our motto is Fidelis in Minimis’ which means Faithfulness in Little things.” She said.
She thanked the President and Excos of the Abuja Branch for honouring her with the Distinguished Leadership Award for her visionary guidance and exceptional leadership to ACMGS. She added that Abuja Branch of the Association has been at the fore-front of philanthropic works and has proven to be good example of their alma mata.
The President of the Abuja Branch of the ACMGS Elelenwo,Old School Association, Mrs Timiyabode Dumbo said the branch is known for her charity works.”It gives us so much joy to help people who cannot help themselves. We have visited a home in Abuja called JSK.Its a home for children with cerebral palsy and autism. We gave them food items and some items for their Special needs. We also visited the School for the Blind,Jabi were we gave them learning aids, walking aids, typewriters and food items.
“We also have a pet project which we call ‘Pad a Girl’. We do customised pads and panty liners for the students.We reach out to every girl in the school and we provide them a jumbo pack of the pads which will last them three months.Its an ongoing project we are doing.” Dumbo said.
While launching the ACMGS Elelenwo,Abuja branch Magazine, Dumbo said it contains the story of the branch from inception in 2021 till date.
She said the Award Night was organised to honour Old Girls of the school who have worked tirelessly for the success of the branch and members who have achieved greatly in their professions and businesses.
Another dignitary who received the Friends of ACMGS Award for her astute contributions to good governance is former Head of Service of the Federation, Amal Pepple. Similarly,the President and Vice President of the Abuja Branch of the Association, Mrs Timiyabode Dumbo and Mrs Ruth Davies Ibiamu got the Distinguished Leadership Award in recognition for their visionary guidance and exceptional leadership to the Association.
Other members honoured for their dedication and contributions to the association are the Convener of the Association in Abuja,Dr Chitu Womehoma Princewill, Mrs Nnenda Makeri, Harriet Ebikobowei Okoya, Ledisi Aje and Koko Ngowari Winifred amongst others.
Other friends of the Association who got an award for their philanthropic works are Hon.Otumba Hinks Dumbo, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, Akinwumi Adepitan Ajibola.Others are Mrs Tyowua Grace, Mrs Queen Ehi-Uujamhan, Dr Mrs Lauretta Achudume and Mrs Nwafor Ifeoma Paul amongst others.
The Vice President of the ACMGS Elelenwo Old Girls Association, Abuja Branch, Mrs Ruth Davies Ibiamu, thanked all the members of the Association for their tremendous support which has made the branch to stand out.
She said the Association is a Sisterhood and urged other schools to form such Associations to help their alma mata and also help their communities.Â
